Hawkesbury Central Food Bank - HCFB
History of the HCFB
The Hawkesbury Central Food Bank was founded by 10 local citizens in 1998, following the ice storm. During this historic storm, meals were prepared and offered to the citizens who suffered its consequences. The former Christ Roi school became the anchor for this new “humanitarian” organization.
Over the years, this service offered to the citizens of our town evolved into what is today the Hawkesbury Central Food Bank. On November 10th, 2001, the HCFB purchased the property behind the Goodies restaurant, where it remained until the property was sold in 2008. At that time, the HCFB moved to 548 Main Street East. In June 2021, it moved from 548 Main St. East to 419 Cartier Blvd., opening its doors in July 2021. This property is owned by the town of Hawkesbury and they do not charge any rent for its use as a food bank.
